Whoa!

Midterm, New Module, and Thoughts-- oh my!

I decided that when I come to class I get inspired to push myself and "OWN IT!" which I love, but when I leave class and sit down to do something-- I suck, so on Wednesday I decided to write everything down that inspired me or sparked my mind, and the reason for this is so when I come to sit down and blog I have many things to go off of, or even with my other classes, work, and so on I have some inspiration!

When I had the midterm we were the last group, and I felt like a dud. I didn't know simple things about my artist, about what I wanted to say, and I didn't give it my full effort at all, and now that I know what to expect I want to exceed those expectations! It's funny however because I took notes on all the people that were in my group and it just didn't help, or I don't know what it was, but now I know so BRING IT- that's the cheerleader in me!

I'm really excited about this new module we are going to be doing- When we were going over the artists I wrote some down that interested me and I think I am going to research them a little while I look over mine! Also, I am nervous about the project and I'm not sure why I am nervous, but I am... more on that later!

NORTON SIMON MUSEUM

I went to the Norton Simon Museum last week actually and I am just now having time to write about it! I think I pushed it this semester with 6 classes, and 2 jobs! Bare me with me!  

I absolutely enjoyed the museum- I went with my Momma because she is very artisty so it was nice to get her perspective on things! We started off in the the 14th - 16th centuries and they were the more religious influenced and the portrait types of paintings- my mom loved and that didn't interest me as much.  We then went to the 17-19th centuries where it was a more modernized version of the 14th -16th centuries there wasn't a HUGE change within those 5 centuries.  However, I did notice that within those centuries there were flowers that were painted.  Normal flowers in pots and vases, but I noticed that there was "real" life things painted too. Things like flys, beetles, and bugs that were painted with the flowers and some of the leaves of the flowers were bitten or eaten from them. It made it seem so real to me to see those things painted in there; although, it wasn't what I was used to seeing it I liked it. 

Moved on throughout the museum and saw Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrant, Matisse and others.  These were more of an abstract look- which wasn't a big fan of my moms, but was a big fan of mine in a sense.  I loved the colors and the different things that were displayed and viewed in different ways, but it made it hard to relate to them because they were so abstract.  I did however, fall in love with Edgar Degas.  I loved his peacefulness of the paintings and they were all of women or something to do with women and their movements which I thought was interesting- he always sculpted them too.  I liked a lot of his work, and there was a lot of it there too.  I also liked the landscaped pictures I could picture myself in that moment and it seemed so real to me.  Two paintings in particular stood out:   Louis- Eugene Boudin and Claude Monet's paintings of the sea.  They were so vivid and beautiful the brush strokes were also very visual which made it the tone seem harsh, but real.  Those were my two favorite. I don't know if it's because I LOVE the ocean and waves, or because of Boudin's name because I LOVE Boudin's sourdough bread- regardless I liked them!

We then went out in the garden area and walked around all the statues and nature- which was beautiful and peaceful and serene...until we were right by the freeway and that kind of killed the moment, but regardless it was a a good atmosphere.  I had a really good time and want to check out some new museums! I wasn't able to get off work to go to Venice- but hopefully soon!

So, not having class is bittersweet! I mean I have class at 8am anyways so I am here in the morning, and it's nice to have a little extra time to do things, but I ALWAYS forget to write on here, so therefore I do not like it!
